Included in her presentation was a reminder to Sam Dale members that Meridian was in the Civil War 150 years ago and the 50-year-old Civil Rights events – both tourist draws to this area – and that an example of “Sherman’s Bowtie” is behind the railroad museum. In the future, the bureau plans to move the office and open a Meridian Welcome Center, Mogollon said.

The Sept. 3, 2014, meeting was called to order by Regent Glenda Thomas. Caroline Wilson assisted Thomas with the opening ritual. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was led by Thomas. Mrs. Sinyard led the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.

Following the program, the following reports were made: President General’s message; National Defense; DAR minutes; Flag; constitution; Indian; Rosalie; Women’s issues; reading of minutes and approved; new yearbooks and treasurer’s report.

There was no old  business. New business included encouraging members to bring a donation of the veterans to the October meeting. It was also announced that the state plans going to present Rosalie Rose and Rosebuds again this year.

Announcements included that the October speaker will be Ginger Walker, state chairman of Women’s Issues.

Thomas thanked hostesses Frances Olander, Caroline Wilson, Ethel McHenry and Bettye Compton.

Members attending the September meeting were Dorothy Shamk, Elsie Meador, Janet Sinyard, Ruby Robinson, Frances Olander, Caroline Wilson, Bettye Compton, Elizabeth Kahllmus, Ethel McHenry, Lynn Selman, Glenda Thomas and Sarah Walters.
