Meridian resident Jacoby Dixon, 20, has been charged with murder and is in custody in the Lauderdale Detention Facility on no bond. Omeika Brown, also of Meridian, has been charged with accessory after the fact.
The case will be presented to the next available grand jury, Meridian Police Department Detective Dareall Thompson said.
“Anybody who was in the downtown area knew who Bobby Ray was,” Cobler said of the victim. “He was a deaf-mute and just a real sweet guy. He wouldn’t hurt anybody if he could.”
By Tuesday afternoon, any trace of the shooting that occurred in the 600 earlier was gone.
Residents lingered outside in the sunshine on one side of the street, a child played in a lot on the other.
