Fresh off a 2-1, come-from-behind win against Jackson Prep Tuesday, Lamar High School couldn’t quite pull off the same feat against Madison-Ridgeland Academy Thursday.

The Lady Raiders fell to MRA, 4-0, after trailing 2-0 at the half. Head coach Juan Carlos Cervantes said mental errors hurt his girls in the first half, and his team was unable to close the gap in the second.

“They were just never really into it,” Cervantes said. “It was more of a mental breakdown. I think the kids are just tired.”

Cervantes cited numerous activities for his girls as a possible explanation for the fatigue.

“That’s not an excuse, but sometimes teams just don’t show up to play,” he siad. “I make consider changing formations, just to do something to keep the interest level up.”

At the same time, Cervantes said his team has been playing well, and hopefully Thursday’s loss was just a bump in the road.

“I’m not too concerned,” Cervantes said. “I never like to lose like that or on any night, but hopefully that will show us we need to get focused. Sometimes you need a little tribulation to get back on track.”

Lamar (7-5-2) will play at Parklane Academy next Tuesday.
