    PHILADELPHIA – Services for Windell Hoyt Moore will be held today, at 1 p.m., at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aaron Tucker and Dr. Dan Howard officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Leake County with military honors. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Moore, 92, died Wednesday, Mar. 16, 2011, at Hospice at the Meadowlands in Hillsborough, N.C., surrounded by his family. He was born and raised in Neshoba County. He graduated from Laurel Hill High School in 1939 and attended Meridian Business College in 1939-1940. He served his country during World War II and retired as a Tech Sergeant from the United States Air Force. After his service to his country, Mr. Moore was employed for over 20 years with John Deere in Durham, N.C., retiring in 1983. Mr. Moore enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He worked hard his entire and loved his family.

    Survivors include his sons: Thomas F. Moore and his wife Wendy of Southbury, Conn., and Roger Moore and his wife Eleanor of Cedar Grove, N.C.; daughters: Susan M. Murray of Durham, N.C., and Robbin R. Moore of Cedar Grove, N.C.; grandchildren: Angela Russ, Bryan Murray, Roger Murray, Amanda Moore and Nicole Moore; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Russ; sisters: Opal Moore Mitchell of Meridian, Mazine Moore Winstead of Philadelphia, and Masie Moore Winstead of Gulfport; a host of nieces and nephews; and, his faithful companions: Daisy, Jack, Sam, Roscoe R. Coltrane, Ginger and Ben.

    He was preceded in death by his mother, Clarinda Ann Sikes Moore and his father, William Ellis Moore; sisters: Fannie Lee Moore Tingle and Mary Ann Elizabeth Moore Ethridge; and, brothers: Horace Moore, Cornelius Nathan Moore, James William Moore and Mason Tyler Moore Sr.

    Memorials may be directed to Project Lifesaver, c/o Orange County Sheriff’s Department, 106 E. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough, N.C. 27278, or to Duke HomeCare and Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, N.C. 27704.

    Visitation will be today, from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.
