Dr. Joseph Bailey, Jr.

Long time Meridian resident Dr. Joseph Bailey, Jr., died at the age of 83, on August 1, 2013, at his San Diego, California residence following a brief illness. Dr. Bailey was a graduate of the original Catholic School, St. Aloysius Academy, now known as St. Patrick Catholic School. He graduated from St. Stanislaus High School in Bay St. Louis, and is also a graduate of Mississippi State University and The University of Geneva, in Switzerland. Dr. Bailey returned to the United States in 1961, and completed his internship at St. Josephís Hospital in San Francisco, Calif. His first and second years of residency were at St. Elizabethís Hospital in Washington, D.C., and his last year of residency at University of California, Los Angeles. After completion of his residency he relocated to San Diego.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara and their three sons, Mark, Geoffrey, and Stephen all of San Diego, Calif.; his sister, Marie Bailey of Meridian, and nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great- nieces and nephews.
Dr. Bailey is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, Sr. and Evelyn Erben Bailey; sisters, Olga Bailey, Lucille Bailey Thomas, Dolores Bailey Herring and brother, Louis Bailey, Sr.
There will be a memorial mass for Dr. Bailey at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2601 Davis Street, Meridian, Mississippi 39301, on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
Donations may be given to St. Patrick School, St. Patrick Church, or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
