From school reports
Former MCC baseball standout Corey Dickerson realized his dream of playing Major League Baseball earlier this season by reaching the big league level with the Colorado Rockies. Dickerson made his major league debut with the Rockies on June 22 by smashing a pair of doubles, but was later optioned back to Triple-A Colorado Springs on July 11. Dickerson was recalled by the Rockies on Saturday after starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left biceps tendonitis and the former MCC star made the most of his return to the Rockies. Dickerson connected on his first home run in his big league career to help the Rockies defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 Sunday afternoon at Coors Field.
Dickerson finished the game with a pair of hits and scored a run for the Rockies. Dickerson belted his first career home run in the bottom of the sixth inning off of Donovan Hand to cut the score to 3-2 in favor of the Brewers. Colorado would eventually finish the game with four home runs to take the one-run victory over Milwaukee. Dickerson also added a pinch-hit single Saturday in a 7-5 loss against the Brewers. The Rockies are currently five games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Western Division race.
Dickerson could remain with the Major League club for a period of time after outfielder Carlos Gonzalez aggravated his sprained right middle finger during his first at-bat Thursday in a 5-3 loss to the Miami Marlins.
The Rockies will open a four-game series against the Atlanta Braves tonight at Turner Field. The Braves are currently in first place in the National League Eastern Division race and will send Brandon Beachy to the mound to face Dickerson and the Rockies. Beachy is making his 2013 debut for the Braves after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Dickerson is currently ranked #15 on MLB.com’s top 20 organizational prospect list for the Rockies. Dickerson played for Meridian Community College from 2009-2010 and was drafted by the Rockies in the 8th round of the 2010 MLB Draft.
