James Albert ‘Jay’ King IV

    James Albert “Jay” King IV, 55, passed away Friday, July 1. He was born to James Albert III and Dianne Tyson King on January 14, 1958 and   was a native of Egypt, Miss. He attended undergrad at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. and participated in Education for the Ministry with the Episcopal Church.

    He lived 27 years of his life in Meridian, where his voice was a fixture on the airwaves of Meridian. He was a member of the Breakfast Bunch on WOKK for many years and went on to establish and program Classic Country 95.1. Jay had a voice that made one want to listen to what he had to say, and he always said it well.

    His involvement in the Meridian community also included serving on the board for the Jimmie Rodgers Foundation, being a member of the Queen City Rods and Classic Car Club, and being a lay reader and member of the Church of the Mediator. He moved to Roanoke, Va. in 2007 where he continued his broadcasting career, lending his talent to classic country radio and National Public Radio.

    Survivors include his wife, Pamla Griffin King and daughter, Lauren King of Winston-Salem, N.C.; son, James King V of Roanoke, Va.; sister,  Molly King Chew; and mother, Dianne Tyson King of Madison.

    He was preceded in death by his father, James A. King III.
