What I said was wrong. In my column last week, I said noble minded people don’t vilify others by using racial slurs. That is still my belief. But I included wealthy, powerful, and educated people in that list. But it was pointed out to me that some people in those categories do use hateful speech. So I didn’t communicate clearly.

    I should have said that anyone of any social standing who is noble-minded will not demean other human beings. So I made an error. I wish to thank those folks who cared enough to correct me. Indeed, words should be used with care.

    Hey, I am allowed ONE mistake a year. Last week was it. My shins are still sore from where my wife kicked me! Now that I’ve done that, let’s see … what else is going on? Oh yes, a plane crashed with many survivors; an Egyptian president was overthrown as millions marched in the streets; and our government is working hard to protect the rights and liberties of its citizens. Oh wait, did I get one of those wrong? Rats. That makes two mistakes this year.

    Seriously, I would’t want to be in an elected office. Government is more difficult, more complicated today. Self-reliance, personal responsibility, and honest effort is waning. Let “Uncle Sam” take care of me is a common mindset. No need to study hard; no need to work hard; no need to keep the family together. Why strive when others so easily game the system?

    I’m glad my values and vision for the future is not solely reliant on our government, for I am a dual citizen. While happily living in America, I am also a citizen of heaven. So I obey the laws of this land, but I also live under the rule of a  king. I am living in his domain. He lived like no other man. He defeated death and is crowned with honor. His authority extends in a dimension, normally invisible, over all who surrender to him.

    This humble king exercises government over my life by means of the Scriptures, by the Holy Spirit’s presence, and by wise leaders — family, civil, and church — who touch my life. So I am blessed naturally and spiritually by good government.

    Evil powers sense the shield around my life. Grace is over me. Righteousness, peace, and joy accompany me when I bring his eternal values and vision to bear on my earthly world.  

    The Lord does all of this without violating my freedom of choice or my conscience. He is amazing! I gladly submit to his divine authority. The king of the universe is a mighty savior … of little old me!
