Residents living near the Kemper County power plant may hear some loud noises Tuesday morning.

    Water and compressed air will be used to clean any debris from on-site pipes and lines, causing a series of sounds, according to a Mississippi Power press release.

    “Residents may hear what sounds like a loud ‘screeching’ and what sounds like a train moving along railroad tracks,” the press release states. “The company will make every effort to reduce the sound as much as possible. The disturbance will be temporary, and there is no reason for concern.”

    The activities are expected to begin around 4:30 a.m. and could occur several times throughout the morning.

    “Nearing 80 percent completion, the Kemper County energy facility will use 21st century coal technology to deliver clean, safe and reliable made-in-Mississippi electricity to Mississippi Power customers,” according to the press release. “The facility, which is Mississippi Power’s first base load generating plant under construction in 30 years, was certified as the best long-term option to meet customers’ growing energy needs.”
