Two men are set for trial in a federal case alleging they made pipe bombs, including one found in a vehicle during a routine check of visitors’ cars at a state prison in Leakesville.
Scott Jenkins Waits, of McHenry, and John Eric Harberson, of Carriere, are accused of making the pipe bombs at Waits’ home May 31, the day before Harberson drove a woman to visit an inmate and reportedly forgot a pipe bomb was in the vehicle.
The Sun Herald reports the men are set for trial Aug. 5 in U.S. District Court in Gulfport. Both pleaded not guilty at arraignments Tuesday before Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Roper.
Waits and Harberson have been held without bond since their arrests.
