Dan Talbert, IT director for the city of Meridian, presents information to the City Council on Tuesday about the city's new online water bill payment service.

    Meridian residents will now be able to pay their water bills online. Mayor Cheri Barry announced Tuesday that the online option is up and running.

    “When we updated the city of Meridian website, we said we wanted to make it a digital city hall,” Barry said. “This puts us another step closer to that goal. The objective is to continually create a website that makes it easier for citizens to work with city government.”

    Residents may access the online water payment service on the city of Meridian website, www.meridianms.org. There are three requirements to use the service. A valid city of Meridian water bill with account number, valid email address, and valid credit or debit card.

    The service accepts three brands of credit cards; Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Debit cards will process as credit cards. The credit card processor charges a fee of 3.65 percent, and the credit card gateway provider charges a fixed ten cents per transaction. A $20 water bill would have a total processing fee of 83 cents.

    Residents should review the Quick Start Guide (the link is on the login page) before they start to register. The Quick Start Guide provides information where to find the details needed on water bills and the steps needed to complete the registration.

    Once registration information is submitted, the service will send an email with a link to the email address provided. Click the link to complete the registration process and then login to the account.

    Once logged in, residents may view accounts, current and previous bills, transaction history, make payments and choose e-billing instead of a paper bill.

    Residents can still pay their bills by postal service, by bank draft, at Trustmark Bank, and at City Hall.
