Evelyn Rhodes Puckett

    Services for Evelyn Rhodes Puckett will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at Chunky Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Chaney, Rev. Wayne Campbell, and Rev. Curtis Guess officiating. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery with Newton County Funeral Home South Chapel in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Puckett, 84, of Chunky, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at home after a short battle with cancer. She was the wife of the late Tracy V. Puckett of Chunky. Evelyn was born in Duffee on Oct. 21, 1928, where she grew up. She was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Annie (Johnson) Rhodes. Evelyn attended Center Ridge School where she enjoyed playing basketball, school plays, and school outings. She was a member of the Chunky Baptist Church, where she enjoyed her Sunday school class and 50+ club. She enjoyed playing games with her family and going to the Spencer Gilbert Chapter of the Eastern Star in Chunky, where she was a member for 50+ years. She was also a member of the Hickory Reading Club.

    Survivors include daughters: Diann Gallaspy of Seymour, Tenn., Sandra Gressett of Chunky, Sharon Monroe of Chunky, and Regina Herd of Florence; her beloved grandchildren: Scott Gressett, Matt Gallaspy, Misti (Gallaspy) Harris, Anthony Gressett, Tra Monroe, Anna Herd, Adam Herd, and Aimee Herd; great-grandchildren: Leah (Gressett) Evans, Megan Harris, Grant Gallaspy, Gaige Gallaspy, Kourtney Gressett, Cameron Gressett, Gavin Gallaspy, and Rowan Gressett; a great-great-grandson, Eli Evans; and, several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    She was preceded in death by her siblings: Howard Rhodes, Florene (Rhodes) Johnson, Theo (Rhodes) Clearman, and Opal (Rhodes) Gressett; and her daughter, Barbara (Puckett) Niamat.

    Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chunky Baptist Church, P.O. Box 98, Chunky, MS 39323.

    Visitation will be Friday, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
