Neshoba NJROTC wins overall second at Battle of New Orleans drill meet

Neshoba Central NJROTC was one of nine schools that competed at the Tulane University, “Battle of New Orleans” drill meet in November and brought home the overall second place trophy, qualifying the unit for the Area 8 Championship meet in March.
Team trophies include:
• First place, Athletics: Rene Taylor, team captain
• Second place, Armed Basic Drill: commanded by Ryan Gardner
• Second place, Armed Exhibition Drill: commanded by Thomas Fincher
• Second place, Unarmed Basic Drill: commanded by Morgan Shingler
• Third place, Unarmed Exhibition: commanded by Morgan Shingler;
• Third place, Academics: Peyton Williamson, team captain
• Third place, Personnel Inspection: commanded by Thomas Fincher.
Individual Medal winners were:
• Dylan Belk – first place, Male Pushup
• Tyler Monk – first place, Male Situps.
The unit will enjoy some down time during the holidays and return to practice in January to prepare for spring competition. The Rockets will travel to Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., on March 2, and then to the Area 8 Southeastern Championships at Ole Miss University on March 16, hoping to return to the Navy National Academic, Athletic and Drill Championships again.
