Nettie Belle Davis

Nettie Belle Davis, 94, formerly of Meridian, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Her life will be celebrated on Friday, at 2 p.m., at Stephens Funeral Home in Meridian. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home of Meridian in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Davis proudly claimed Meridian as her home, even during the 10 years she lived in Birmingham, Ala., and the few brief years late in her life while she was in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She was the youngest of a large family and was always a dear and cherished aunt and grandmother. Always active in her church, she has been the spiritual light for her family as well as everyone around her. She loved her sewing, painting and all of those who could easily call her friend.
Survivors include her two sons: Joe Fikes (Judi) of Huntsville, Ala., and Barry Fikes of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren: Bill Fikes (Pam), Steven Fikes (Amy), Elizabeth Stanford (Ryan), and Joshua Hosman; great-grandchildren: Caleb Fikes, Eli Fikes, Kinsey Fikes, Jared Fikes, Carter Stanford and Caitlynn Stanford; extended family: Ralph Setzer (Judy), Gary Setzer (Carol), and Ronnie Sellers (Annette); and cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Garland Fikes and Houston Davis; father, Joseph Green; mother, Carrie Belle Williamson; step-father, William Williamson; sister, Madge Brown; and, brothers: J.C. and Ed Green.
Pallbearers will be Bill Fikes, Steven Fikes, Joshua Hosman, Ryan Stanford, Willie Clyde Green and Joe Cliff Martin.
Honorary pallbearers include her dear friends in Meridian in her art class, exercise partners, sewing friends, College Park Sunday School classmates and those who have cared for her at Regency Retirement Village, Forest Manor, DCH Regional Medical Center and Hospice of West Alabama.
Her faith and religion have served her well and now and are comforting those left behind in the assurance of her life now with God. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial at either College Park United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Friday, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., at the funeral home.
