Authorities with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and the Meridian Police Department are working separate robbery cases that occurred over the past two days.
LCSD Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said Tuesday morning a woman reported she was robbed at gunpoint on a road near the Meridian city limits. Calhoun said the woman told investigators she was traveling south on Old 31st Avenue toward Valley Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday when she drove upon a car that seemed to be stalled in the road.
“The woman said three black males, all in their twenties, were standing near the black four-door sedan,” Calhoun said. “She said two of the suspects, one armed with what she described as a black, semi-automatic handgun, approached her car and demanded money.”
Calhoun said the woman handed over about $200 in cash. The woman then left the scene and called 911. Calhoun said by the time deputies arrived at the scene the car and suspects were gone.
Calhoun said there was not a more accurate description of the suspects or the car.
MPD detectives are investigating a separate incident Sunday night in which a woman reported she was robbed at a local bank.
The victim told police that around 10:40 p.m. she was robbed by a black man wearing a ski mask outside of the Trustmark Bank on Highway 493 near North Hills Street. She told authorities she did not see a weapon.
She was unhurt in the incident.
MPD officers and detectives searched for the suspect in a section of nearby woods but were unable to locate anyone.
Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (601) 485-1860.
