Lura Carolyn Eubanks Gunter, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, August 16, 2012. She was born May 14, 1917, to David Monroe Eubanks and Lura Vashti Thomas Eubanks in Purvis, Lamar County. She was a lifelong resident of Mississippi and was a member of Harvest Point Baptist Church in Kosciusko. After graduating from Blue Mountain and Hillman College, she worked for and retired from the Mississippi Welfare Department as a social worker for approximately 20 years. Over those years, she developed a personal relationship of trust with many people and loved dealing and helping with their personal needs. No one loved the “Word of God” as much as Carolyn and she was continually interceding in prayer for her family, friends, community and country, not to exclude Worldwide Missions and Missionaries.
Carolyn is survived by her five sons and their wives: Clarence M. Gunter (Elsie Mangum Gunter, deceased) of Garland, Texas, David F. Gunter, DVM (Trudy Hansford Gunter) of Vicksburg, Charles (Sam) S. (Cindy Jennings Gunter) of Edwards, Mo., James (Jim) T. (Jamie Wood Gunter) of Tupelo, and S. Lamar Gunter (Debby McRae Gunter) of Meridian; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one niece, Marian Frances Dodd Gilliland (Dr. Robert N. Gilliland); and one nephew, David Eubanks Dodd (Pat Turnipseed Dodd).
She was preceded in death by her parents; and, all her sisters: Helen Eubanks, Rosemary Dodd, David Eubanks and Sarah Eugenia Eubanks.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers are her nieces: Marian Frances Gilliland, Pat Dodd; nephews: Dr. Robert N. Gilliland, and David E. Dodd; her son’s cousin, Claude J. Gunter; and, her special friends: Tommy Burdine, Billie Vowell, Donna Snuggs, and Willetta Campbell.
Visitation will begin Monday, at 10 a.m., at Jordan Funeral Home, with services to begin at 1 p.m., in the funeral home chapel with Bro. James Gordon officiating. Graveside services will be held in Sallis Cemetery. Jordan Funeral Home of Kosciusko is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity or church of your choice.
