Rodney Hood’s second recruitment is winding down.
The former Meridian High star is ready to announce his new college home either today or Thursday according to reports out of the Kevin Durant Skills Academy in Chicago.
“When I get home from this camp, the day after I’ll pick a school between Duke and Ohio State,” Hood told SportsNet New York. “It’s either going to be Wednesday night or Thursday.”
Hood was ranked the No. 16 player in the country in the Class of 2011 after leading Meridian to its first state championship since 1978. The 6-foot-8 wing, though, ended that recruitment early, signing with Mississippi State during the early signing period prior to that senior season. In choosing the home state Bulldogs, Hood turned down overtures from Alabama, Florida State and Louisville among others.
And Hood immediately made an impact in Starkville, starting from Day 1 and averaging 10.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. However, Hood decided to transfer following the retirement of longtime MSU coach Rick Stansbury and the hiring of Rick Ray. Although, Hood reportedly was talked out of transferring from the MSU program during the season.
Once Hood went back on the market, he drew wide interest, making visits to Baylor and Memphis in addition to his finalists of Duke and Ohio State, where he could be reunited with former AAU teammate LaQuinton Ross.
“You know, it just felt great,” Hood told SNY.tv about his visit to the Blue Devils. “When you go to Duke you’re playing on the highest level of college basketball and the tradition there is great so it was good to go visit.
“I’m just going to make my decision. It’s the second time around so I want to make the best decision for me. I just like the (Ohio State) coaching staff and ‘Q’ is a bonus. But I like the players and I just like the basketball part of it.”
