Ruth Nicholson Ross

    Services for Ruth Nicholson Ross will be held today at 10 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Mrs. Ross, 97, went to her eternal home on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Laird Hospital.

    Many will remember Mrs. Ross as the “Social Studies” teacher at Union Public School. She taught full time for 18 years. Due to the declining health of her father and husband, she retired to stay home to care for them. Even after retirement, she was called upon many times to substituted and she gladly did it.

    Survivors include her two sons: Michael Ross (Beth) of Lucedale and Roger Ross (Sue) of Raymond; one granddaughter, Rachael Ross Newman (Mitch) of Lucedale; one great-granddaughter, Alice Logan Newman of Lucedale; two step-grandchildren: Deborah Lee Hauptman (Bobby) of Utica and Angela Ezell of Florence; four step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Julia Skinner (Rudolph) of Union.   

    She was preceded in death by her husband, “Mike” Ross; and two brothers, Roger and Bill Nicholson.

    Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home.
