Services for Herbert Ray Peden will be held Saturday, at 10 a.m., at Lynville Methodist Church with Bro. Steve Lampkin and Bro. Chris Gully officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home of DeKalb in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Peden, 79, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012. He was a lifelong resident of Kemper County, and leaves behind many family and dear friends. He was retired, a U.S. Army Veteran, and loved bass fishing, his family, and sports, and was especially a fan of Mississippi State, Jeff Gordon, and the Atlanta Braves.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lucille Gregory Peden of DeKalb; daughter, Darlene Steede of DeKalb; grandson, Michael Kilpatrick and wife Stephanie of Brookhaven; great-grandsons: Trace, Addison, and Walker; brothers: Jimmy Peden (Doris) of Moselle, Roy Peden (Alice Marie) of Preston, and Harold Peden, the mayor of Bloomfield; sister, Modene Davis (Henry Edward) of DeKalb; aunt, Brownie Peden of DeKalb; great-granddogs: Putter and Coco; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bernard Gully Peden and Gusta Skipper Peden; and his sister, Sandra Branning.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Lynville Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Gully, Albert Gully, Ben Vandevender, Greg King, Greg Newell, and Lloyd Sims.
Visitation will be today, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
