Jefcoat, who received a poultry science degree from Mississippi State University, was involved in 4-H for 12 years as a youth and showed animals during that time. In her current job, she is responsible for the livestock, poultry, horse, and sheep programs in Lauderdale County.

Jefcoat said 24 pigs were shown by 4-Hers this year.

She noted that the Southeast District Horse Show will be held locally in June. Ten 4-Hers from the area will show horses.

Pigs and steers are a one-year project, Jefcoat said. Steers must weigh no less than 1,000 pounds.  An ideal weight for a steer is 1,250 pounds.

Jefcoat said  people even show rabbits.

The meeting was held in the fellowship hall of Macedonia Baptist Church. After Sarah Burns called the meeting to order, Garret Nelson led the Pledge of Allegiance. Emily Nelson presented a devotional on loving God first, and then one another.

During the business session, Natalie Nelson presented the treasurer’s report. Sarah Burns read the minutes, which were approved.

Letters written to soldiers currently stationed overseas were collected to be mailed. Club members were encouraged to continue writing letters.

In new business, members were informed that the April meeting will be a craft session in which everyone will make “happies” to take to nursing home residents in May.

Natalie Nelson led in the 4-H Pledge, after which the meeting was adjourned. Refreshments were provided by The Burns.
