Threefoot Art Festival coming soon

The Threefoot Art Festival has become one of Meridian’s largest art events, and organizers say it’s only getting bigger.
According to Casey Null, executive director of Meridian Council for the Arts and cultural affairs coordinator for the city of Meridian, this year’s festival will have more artists and vendors than in any previous year.
The festival, set for April 7, will be held in the same place at it has been for the past several years — on Seventh Street next to City Hall — but Null said she hopes the growing festival will one day become too big for that location and have to expand to cover more of downtown.
The festival will feature 27 artists from around the Southeast, including 18 Mississippi artists, music and dance performances, and a number of food vendors.
Null said artists will be displaying and selling art in a variety of mediums, including paintings, photography, stained glass, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, and woodwork.
Food vendors, she said, will be selling everything from hamburgers to snow cones, and that the popular Threefoot Bloody Mary booth will return this year.
The children’s activity area, which will be on the front lawn of City Hall, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will have the theme,”Climb Aboard the Queen City Arts Train.” Children will be given conductor’s hats and will participate in rail themed art and craft activities.
Local art to be featured at the festival includes the fine crafts of Linda C. Smith, the acrylic paintings of Cindy Jarman, the stained glass of Richard and Martha Rea, the fine crafts of Johanna Massengale, and the paintings and pottery of a local artists group.
Performers on the Threefoot stage will be Thirst, Allen Hunt, Queen City Gypsies, Shades Between, Sumer Pritchett, Jamil Strong African Dance Troup, and Mousia.
