According to Clark, commission’s mission is to improve the local economy and to enhance what  Meridian already has.

Advertising is the number one job of tourism. Clark said the commission currently places emphasis on advertising on its Website, on Facebook, through e-mails and magazines. Soon, digital advertising via billboards will be implemented.

Local sites promoted by the Lauderdale County Tourism Commission include the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center, Causeyville General Store and nine historic cemeteries.

The tourism board member said many people from around the country visit the MSU Riley Center and Temple Theater, as well as the Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Museum.

“Perhaps the best advertising comes by word of mouth. So talk up Meridian to your family and friends in neighboring states to show off all that Meridian has to offer,” Clark said

The community club’s annual Zero Day is scheduled for Oct. 29 at 4892 Zero Road. The day will include lots of food, games, vendors and entertainment for all ages. The public is encouraged to attend.

Yard of the Month honors for September were presented to Dale and Theresa Minchew of Mini Farm Road.

The Long Creek Community Development Club’s next meeting will be Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. The club will honor the Long Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department with an appreciation supper for the volunteers and their families.
