MCC holds summer graduation

    Ten Meridian Community College students took the spotlight during the College’s graduation ceremonies Friday evening as they were selected as Circle of Excellence honorees.

     The ceremony, which was held in Meridian’s Northcrest Baptist Church, marked the conclusion of the summer 2011 term.

     The graduates, Deavon Mosley of Scooba, Robin E. McNeil, Laura Smith and Kevin Fletcher, all of Meridian, Tracy Knight Dean of Bailey, Krystal Hagan of Rose Hill, Justin Harrell of Carthage, Valerie Suzanne Sanders of Forest, Megan Mowdy of DeKalb and Terressa Danner of Choctaw County, Ala., were chosen on the basis of scholarship, leadership, spirit and service.

     Mosley, a graduate of the Radiologic Technology Program, plans to attend The University of Mississippi to obtain additional certification while earning a bachelor of science degree. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Health Occupations Students of America where she assisted in hosting the district competition and participated in various service projects such as Mission Madness, Ronald McDonald House, Alzheimer’s Awareness and Juvenile Diabetes Research, and MCC’s food pantry.

     McNeil, a graduate of the Cosmetology Program, plans to own her own salon. She attends and participates at Free Gospel Temple and visits Meridian Manor monthly for fellowship and devotionals. McNeil is on the Dean’s List and participated in campus life activities.

     Dean, a graduate of the Radiologic Technology Program, plans to further her education at the University of South Alabama to obtain a bachelor of science degree and additional certification in ultrasound.   She is a member of PTK, Radiology Technology Student Organization, and HOSA where she assisted in hosting the district competition and participated in various service projects: Alzheimer’s Awareness and Juvenile Diabetes Research, Mission Madness, Ronald McDonald House and MCC’s food pantry.

     Hagan, a graduate of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program, plans to continue her education at the University of Mississippi Medical Center to pursue a bachelor of science degree in medical laboratory science.  She is a member of PTK, HOSA, team captain of Medical Laboratory Technology Student Bowl team and historian for the MLT Student Organization.  Her service projects include Ronald McDonald House, MCC food pantry, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, Operation Christmas Child and Salvation Army Angel Tree.  She served as a volunteer at the ARMC Heart Check and MCC’s Yard Sale.

     Harrell, a graduate of the Radiologic Technology Program, plans to obtain additional certifications in magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography. He is a member of PTK and HOSA. He has participated in service projects in Alzheimer’s Awareness and Juvenile Diabetes Research, Mission Madness, Ronald McDonald House and MCC’s food pantry. He is an active church member, has raised funds for cystic fibrosis, and participated in Shoeboxes for Soldiers.

    Smith, a graduate of the Practical Nursing Program,plans to upgrade to a registered nurse in the future. She is a member of HOSA and Practical Nursing Student Organization where she serves as photographer for the third semester class. She is a student representative for faculty meetings and is on the Dean’s List.

     Fletcher, a graduate of the Radiologic Technology Program, plans to attend the University of Mississippi to obtain additional certification and work with pediatric cancer patients. He is a member of PTK, HOSA and Radiologic Technology Student Organization. He has participated in HOSA national service projects.

     Sanders, a graduate of the Dental Assisting Technology Program, is a member of HOSA and volunteered with district HOSA competitions, participated in Christmas Shoebox Ministry, MCC’s food pantry drive and Ronald McDonald House Supply Drive. She participated in “Give Kids a Smile Day” providing dental care for underprivileged children.

     Mowdy, a graduate of the University Transfer Program, plans to attend Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus to obtain a bachelor’s in elementary education. Her future plans are to move to the Dominican Republic to teach English long term. She is a member of PTK, MCC Dimensions, MCC Baptist Student Union and MCC Chorus.

     Danner, a graduate of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program,  plans to further her education at Mississippi State University or University of Southern Mississippi to become a medical laboratory scientist and obtain a position as laboratory manager.  She is a member of the Medical Laboratory Technology Student Organization and HOSA where she placed second is state competition and third in national competition in biotechnology.  She has participated in campus life activities, Street Strut for Breast Cancer, district HOSA competitions, and in numerous service projects, i.e., Ronald McDonald House, MCC food pantry, Operation Christmas Child, Salvation Army Angel Tree and ARMC Heart Check.
