Meridian cyclists take home medals

The State Games of Mississippi hosted it’s annual cycling tournament Sunday in Meridian.
Scott Kuppersmith of Natchez won the overall gold medal leaving Gulfport resident Robert Driskell with the silver medal. Emry Kennedy of Meridian earned the bronze medal for the overall race.
In the Men’s 19-29 division, Jason Murray of Philadelphia won the gold, beating Benjamin Weil of Meridan. Overall winner Kuppersmith, took home the gold in the Men’s 30-39 division. Overall silver medalist Driskell, also won the Men’s 40-49 division, Meridian residents Richard Davis and Perry Goodman won the silver and bronze.
In the Men’s 50-59 age bracket, Meridan resident Joel Gordy earned the gold medal, Stan Murray of Columbus won the silver, and Fred Grant of Meridian took home the bronze medal.
In the Men’s 60-69 division, Meridian dominated with overall bronze winner Emry Kennedy won the gold, Bob Glenn was seconds behind to win the silver, and Senator Videt Carmichael earned the bronze medal.
In the Women’s division, Natchez resident Lena Yarbrough took home the gold medal in the 30-39 age bracket.
Moving up to the Women’s 40-49 division, Stephanie Andersonof Waveland won the gold medal, beating Alicia DePalma of Meridian, who took home the silver. Lora Blackledge of Meridian won the bronze Medal.
Ceil Bunyard of Meridian won the gold medal in the Women’s 50-59 division with Vickie Alexander of Meridian trailing behind her to win the silver medal. Donna Carmichael of Meridian took home the bronze in the same division.

Meridian teams medal at volleyball tournament
Volleyball players braved the sun and heat Staturday at Old John Moss Field for the State Games of Mississippi’s 2-person volleyball tournament.
In the Men’s A Division, Collinsville team ‘20 Minutes of Heck’ composed of Patrick Cook and Doug Everett , earned the silver medal after beating bronze winninng team ‘Dawg Pound’ made of Chuck and Colton Dooley from Meridian.
In the Men’s B division, father and son team ‘Enter Sandman’ made up of Ken and Ian Turner took home the gold medal. ‘The Sneaky Dinks’ from Meridian, consisting of Taylor and Tyler Scott, came in third, winning the bronze medal.
In the Women’s Division, Meridian team ‘Sideout Sistas’ made up of Suzanne Stokes and Tracey Deibig, won the silver medal after coming in second to Brandon team ‘Deb Perie’.
In the Youth division, ‘Legacy’ made of Lauderdale residents Jared Crum and Kyndall Weir won the gold medal after beating Jake Crum and Camden Weir making it a brother against brother match. Meridian youth team made of Brittany Turner and Morgan Ross won the bronze.
