    • Justin S. Knight has been selected to receive the Jacob Toney Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    This $1,600 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Rebekah Hurley “Ree Ree” Toney of Quitman. This memorial tribute to her son is designated for a student from Clarke County studying in one of the health fields. 

    Knight, a 2008 graduate of Quitman High School, is in the second semester of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at MCC. A Dean’s List scholar, Knight played soccer for the Eagles his freshman year.  He plans to enter the workforce upon graduation in May of 2012.

    • Laura Lee Taylor and Maranda LeHughes Agee have been selected to receive the C.B. “Dough” and Alice Rawlings Scholarships at Meridian Community College.

    These awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Norma Rawlings Webb of Birmingham in tribute to her parents.  The Rawlings’ were actively involved in civic and sports activities in the Meridian area for many years.

    Taylor, a 2010 graduate of Lake Attendance Center, is taking courses in business and computer science at MCC. Nominated for this award by Baseball Head Coach Chris Curry, Taylor serves as the baseball team manager.

    Agee, a 2010 graduate of Bay Springs High School, is taking prerequisite courses for the Surgical Technology Program at MCC. Nominated by Athletic Director and Head Coach Hilary Allen, Agee helps with managerial duties for the women’s basketball team.

    • Patricia Ann Slusher has been selected to receive the Internal Medicine Clinic Nursing Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    This $1,000 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by the doctors and staff of the local healthcare provider. The scholarship was established as a tribute to the nursing staffs of the Meridian hospitals.

    Slusher is in the third semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program.  A Dean’s List scholar, she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. Slusher is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and the Mississippi Organization of Associate Degree Nursing.  She is a United States Navy veteran and has worked as a personal trainer. Her goal is to complete her bachelor of science degree innursing and pursue a career in psychiatric nursing.  

    • Caleb Matthew Wright has been selected to receive the Margaret Reed Dulaney Memorial Scholarship. 

    This $1,800 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established from donations made by friends and family at the time of her death. Mrs. Dulaney is remembered for her philanthropy and her love of the arts.

    Wright, a 2010 graduate of the Meridian Christian Homeschool Educators, is in the University Transfer Program at MCC with plans to pursue a degree in communications. Wright is a member of the MCC Chorus and the Baptist Student Union. He works as an assistant with Dimensions, an auditioned performance group on campus. Wright was named to the President’s List last fall and has recently been taped for Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students.

    •  Susan Terrell Jones of Meridian was among East Central Community College students recently inducted into Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.

    Jones, 41, a nontraditional student majoring in early childhood education, was a candidate for spring graduation.

    The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to promote scholarship, develop character and cultivate fellowship among academically superior students. Membership is by invitation only. To be eligible, students must have earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average as full-time students and have an overall grade point average of 3.5 or better.

    Jones, a 1988 graduate of Southeast Lauderdale High School, is married to Ollie E. Jones Jr. and they have three children.

     • Carly Cecille Milling has been selected to receive the Dr. Lloyd Wilton Marsalis Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    This $1,000 award is funded by the MCC Foundation. Marsalis retired as professor and head of the Department of Psychology at Mississippi University for Women after a distinguished career in education.  He and his wife, Dr. Sula Marsalis, were instrumental in building the Walter and Cora Thompson Johnson Scholarship Endowment at MCC.

    Milling, a 2010 graduate of West Lauderdale High School, is completing her first year in the University Transfer Program at MCC. A Dean’s List scholar, she is pursuing a career as a physical therapist.    

    • Melissa Ann Cook of Chunky has been selected to receive the Miriam Roberson Nursing Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    This $1,100 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Thomas Roberson in 1989 as a memorial to his wife. Mrs. Roberson, a registered nurse, was a 1954 honors graduate of the College. Only top students who have completed the first two semesters of the Associate Degree Nursing Program are eligible to receive this scholarship.

    Cook, 2003 graduate of Newton County High School, is a third semester student. She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses and the Mississippi Organization of Associate Degree Nursing.

    Cook is married with three children; she works part time for Anderson Regional Medical Center. Her goal is to continue working while pursuing a master of science degree in nursing.   

    • Derrick LaValle Boler has been selected to receive the Mott Foundation Scholarship at Meridian Community College. 

    This $800 award is funded through the MCC Foundation. The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is a private, grant making foundation based in Flint, Michigan.

    Boler, a 1987 graduate of Meridian High School, is enrolled in the Commercial Truck Driving Program at MCC. He completed the program in May. Boler has worked at Peavey Electronics and The Crossings at Alliance Health Center.
