Services for Joan Ascher Cahn will be held Thursday, at 11 a.m., at Temple Beth Israel, with Rabbi Klaven officiating. Burial will be in the Temple’s Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Joan Cahn, 77, of Meridian, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, in Portland Ore. She was the daughter of Minnie Hirsch and Isaac Simon Ascher of Jackson.
After graduation from the University of Texas in 1956, Joan and A. Leon Cahn made their home in Meridian, where the happiness of her family was the focus of her life. She was passionate about travel, active with civic groups and loved playing Mahjongg and Bridge. She employed her degree in Education to teach more than one generation of children how to swim.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, A.L.; children: Melanie Dann and her husband Will of Portland, Ore., and Lee Cahn and his wife Susan of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren: Naomi and Julian Dann, Allison and Ascher Cahn; and, sister, Eleanor Lappen and her family of California.
Pallbearers will be Leon Cahn, Will Dann, Julian Dann, Richard Wilbourn III, Bill Lappen and David Lappen.
Honorary pallbearers are Edgar Morrison, Harold Meyer, Donald Adler, Alfred Rosenbaum, Marty Davidson, Lewis Rosenfeld, Winston Cameron, Alex Loeb and Harold Heaster.
