As if the interview process isn’t stressful enough, sitting down to dinner with a potential employer can be downright intimidating.
“During a job interview, they need to be focused on themselves, not which fork or spoon to use,” said Dr. Natasha Randle, assistant professor of management at Mississippi State University, Meridian campus.
On March 4, the Fourth Annual Etiquette Workshop and Dress for Success Fashion Show will be held at Kahlmus Auditorium on the Mississippi State University, Meridian campus. The event is sponsored by Students for the Advancement of Management (SAM), Division of Business.
Cassandra Latimer, associate director of the Mississippi State University Career Center in Starkville, will conduct the workshop. Latimer, who has worked in college career services for more than 13 years, speaks frequently on the topic of business and dining etiquette to student groups.
“Students are somewhat intimidated by a formal dining setting, and we know that employers invite students to dinners as part of the recruitment process,” Latimer said. “Our goal is to educate students on what to expect so they will feel much more at ease.”
The workshop includes a First Impressions Seminar, Dress for Success Fashion Show and Dining Etiquette with five-course meal. The meal will include an appetizer, soup, salad, main course and dessert.
Participation is open to high school, junior/community college and university students, as well as the general public.
