With 2011 fast approaching, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency encourage Mississippians to make emergency preparedness one of their New Year’s resolutions.

    In the New Year, FEMA will kick off Resolve to be Ready in 2011. This nationwide campaign urges individuals, families, businesses and communities to be ready for any type of disasters.

    “Emergencies can happen at anytime, anywhere,” said Dennis Kizziah, director of FEMA’s Mississippi Recovery Office. “Regardless of the event, personal preparedness is the key to emergency response.”

    “During this holiday season, MEMA and FEMA want you to make a resolution to be prepared with a few simple steps,” said MEMA Director Mike Womack. “Get an emergency supply kit, make an emergency plan and be informed of the disasters and hazards in your area.”

    Resolve to be Ready in 2011 is one resolution we can all keep, thanks to the preparedness resources available at www.ready.gov, www.msema.org, or the Spanish language site, www.listo.gov. These sites include important information such as how to put together a kit, make a plan and stay informed.

    Resolve to be Ready in 2011 is led by FEMA’s Ready Campaign in partnership with Citizen Corps and the Advertising Council.
