A Meridian resident will go to prison for receiving stolen goods, announced Attorney General Jim Hood Friday.
Bryant Moore, age 48, of 1611 5th Street in Meridian appeared before Judge Lewis Coleman Sr. in Lauderdale County Circuit Court on Tuesday. Moore pled guilty to one count of receiving stolen goods.
In this case, Moore took a truck load of building materials that belonged to Kimbrell-Ruffer Lumber Company and unloaded its contents to a Mr. Charles Young without any authority or permission to do so. Young also faces charges of receiving stolen goods. His case is pending prosecution.
Judge Coleman sentenced Moore to a term of five years in custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with four years to serve and one year suspended with one year of Post release supervision. Moore also agreed to testify against Young. He must also pay $1,000 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund and $309 in court costs. There was no restitution ordered because the victims were able to recover all of their property.
Attorney General Jim Hood stated, “The victim’s property was recovered because of good police work by the Meridian Police Department. When the report of the theft came into the police department, an astute officer, Dareall Thompson, remembered seeing the truck and the direction it was headed. When he found the truck some of the materials were still on the ground. This is a good example of all the good our law enforcement officers do for us every day. Thank one the next time you see one.”
