Philadelphia officials are still trying to piece together bits of information hoping they can determine the identity of a woman whose body was found hanging in a tree Saturday morning and under what circumstances she met her death.

Philadelphia Police Chief Richard Sistrunk said the death investigation is ongoing and that he hopes detectives are close to identifying the woman who appeared to be of Asian descent.

He said he received the preliminary autopsy report from Jackson Monday but was not going to release any details until the body could be identified.

“The body is at the crime lab in Jackson and we are trying to find out who she is,” said Sistrunk.

The Neshoba Democrat reported that a motorist saw the body and alerted authorities. Sistrunk said the body was found at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday in a sparsely populated part of Philadelphia in what he called an area with several back streets. He said a car with Colorado license plates, believed to the victim’s, was found at about 4 p.m. by officers about a block and a half away.

“We have possible leads as to who this person is so we are hoping that pans out,” Sistrunk said.
