I cannot understand why Councilpersons Smith, Palmer and Perry voted against the garbage contract low bidder. I understand that Councilperson Smith stated on television that Waste Management had donated some money to the Supervisors and a small amount to the City; however, this is certainly not a good and valid reason to award the garbage contract to the high bidder. The saving of over $100,000.00 per year is reason enough to vote for the low bidder. In this horrible economic state, where the City has had to lay off personnel and furlough others and to cut expenditures in all departments; it behooves the above three elected representatives of their districts to reconsider their vote and save the citizens of their district their taxpayers money.
