    Services for Howard Jerry Stuart were held on Tuesday, August 31 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge, LA.  Rev. Jan Holloway of Lafayette, Louisiana and Rev. Gerald Chaney of Chunky, Mississippi officiated.  Burial followed the services at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Baton Rouge.

    Mr. Stuart, 85 of Baton Rougue, LA,  died on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in his home.

    He was preceded in death by his parents Shepherd Spencer Stuart and Jessie Page Stuart and nine siblings:  Owen S. Stuart, John Coleman Stuart, Chris Page Stuart, Belton Owen Stuart, Bolivar Stuart, Mary Tanner Stuart, Shepherd Spencer Stuart, Jr., James Stuart, and Ida May Scott. 

    He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Annie Jane Watson Stuart, know to their grandchildren as “Granny Annie”, formerly of Kemper County, Mississippi, a son Kevin Stuart, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Williamson of Jacksonville, Florida and Debbie and Mike Stiltner of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; six grandchildren:  Sharon Brown of Jacksonville, Florida, Dale Williamson of Alaska, Clarke Stiltner, Jacob Stiltner, Noah Stiltner and Sean Stuart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and five great grandchildren.

    He is also survived by seven sisters and three brothers-laws:  Peggy Johnson, Rose and Gary Henley of Union, Mississippi, Mary Louise and Gerald Chaney of Chunky, Mississippi, Bonnie Sharp of Meridian, Mississippi, Grace and Bill Brunelle of Collinsville, Nancy Berry of El Cajon, California, and Sally Moore of Durham, North Carolina and three brothers and sister-in-laws:  Ben and Estelle Stuart, Butch and Lynn Stuart, of Meridian, Mississippi, and Roland and Kaye Stuart of Durham, North Carolina.  Carroll Carter, Luke Davis, Rock Davis, Zack Davis, Mark Taylor and Trey Wharton  served as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers were John Domingue and Gabrial Gonzelez.  Mr. Stuart was born on September 30, 1924 in Kemper County, Mississippi.  He served his country during World War II, in the navy.  He was stationed in the South Pacific and was a decorated war veteran.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3784.  He was a master craftsman and carpenter.  He was a former member of Carpenters Local 1098 in Baton Rouge.  He oversaw the apprenticeship of the first female carpenter in the United States.  He passed away surrounded by his family, in the home that he built—according to his wishes.
