Workers with the City of Meridian clear away a pecan tree they cut down out of the front yard of Beverly Meredith’s yard Thursday morning. Billy Thomas is on the chain saw and Carl Latham is on the track hoe waiting to pick up the debris and load it into a dump truck. Meredith said for the 15 years she has lived at the home, located at 2316 23rd Ave., she has been afraid the tree would fall on her house. Now, she said, she can sleep more soundly especially during bad weather. Joanne McClendon, part of the work crew, said another reason the city cut the tree down was because the tree was starting to become tangled in the power lines and telephone wires. The street was blocked for several hours Thursday while the work was being done.
