- Mississippi Treasurer Tate Reeves, far left, was in Meridian Wednesday at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association in an attempt to return money to residents with unclaimed property.
Meridianites who thought they might have money in the state’s unclaimed property fund lined up at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association auditorium Wednesday to find out.
The state treasurer’s office set up at the auditorium in order to return money to residents who have been in the unclaimed property fund.
State Treasurer Tate Reeves said the state has more than $45 million that it’s trying to return, more than $2 million of which belongs to residents of the six counties around Meridian.
Unclaimed property consists of dormant funds reported to the state by businesses such as banks, insurance companies, and traveler’s check companies. To find out if you have any unclaimed funds, visit the state treasurer’s Web site at www.treasurertatereeves.com.
