Chester Pollard Baker

 

    QUITMAN – Services for Chester Pollard Baker will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Episcopal Church with the Rev. Walton Jones officiating. Burial will be in Stonewall Cemetery with Wright’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Mr. Baker, 80, of Enterprise, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his residence. He was a member of St. Mary Episcopal Church. Mr. Baker was a retired Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy. He was a proud patriot who served his country with honor and dignity. Chester Pollard Baker was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved a good story and especially a good joke. He was a master wood carver who created a world of wonder from a piece of wood.

    Survivors include his wife of 52 wonderful years, Frances Ballard Baker of Enterprise; son, Mark Ballard Baker and Yesika of Pasadena, Calif.; daughter, Diane E. Baker of New Orleans, La.; grandchild, Matteo Paul Baker of Pasadena, Calif.; brothers, N. E. Baker of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Ben Baker of Kinston, N.C., Mack Baker of Greensboro, N.C. and Doug Baker of Asheville, N.C.; and a sister, Janet Sojka of Peth Ambly, N.J.

    He was preceded in death by a son, Chester Baker Jr.; parents, Newell Edward and Edith Rives Baker; and a sister, Edith Rudder.

    Pallbearers will be Geedy Dorman, Billy Barry, Mike Whitaker, Troy Smith, Mike Davis and Tim Davis.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

    Visitation will be today, from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home in Quitman.
