Lois Rae Scruggs

    Services for Lois Rae Scruggs will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Derrick Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Mrs. Scruggs, 78, of Meridian, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at her residence. She was employed at King’s Daughters Rest Home for 12 years. Mrs. Scruggs will be remembered as a strong loving wife, mother and grandmother.

    Survivors include three sons, Charles R. Scruggs Jr. and his wife, Teresa, of Meridian, Leonard Ray Scruggs and his wife, Bessie, of Meridian, and Billy R. Scruggs and his wife, Margaret, of the Snell Community; six daughters, Lois Elizabeth “Sis” Harper of Meridian, Julia Ann McElhenney and her husband, William, of Quitman, Alma Kay Morvant and her husband, John, of Meridian, Jo Ann Walker and her husband, Randall, of Meridian, Mary Katherine Williams and her husband, Primus, of Chunky, and Sue Ellen Scruggs of Meridian; 31 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dovie Louise Potter of Meridian; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Scruggs of Hamilton.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Scruggs Sr.; parents, Otis and Dovie Elizabeth Eastman; a son, Mickhal Wayne Scruggs; a sister, Bernice Lee Stewart; two grandchildren, Angela Michelle Ward and Crystal Lynn Scruggs; and a son-in-law, James Melvin Harper.

    Pallbearers will be Michael Harper, Jason Harper, Randy Ward, Curtis Scruggs, Russ Harper, William Briggs and Frank Briggs.

    Honorary pallbearers are Ken Scruggs and Jessie Keeton.

    Visitation will be held today, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
