Eight students from West Lauderdale were among 24,636 runners to participate in the Country Music Half-Marathon on April 24 at Nashville’s Centennial Park. All eight Knights completed the 13.1-mile road race, led by Manuel Granados, 17, who finished 335th in 1:37. Zach Shelly followed with a 1:42 and Robert Billups finished in 1:44. Also running from West were Alexa Flaskamp, 2:09; Kaitlyn Flaskamp, 2:19; Lauren Cantey, 2:20; Ragan Creel, 2:24; and Lauren Lewis, 2:24. “I’m proud of all eight kids for completing the half-marathon,” West cross country coach Doug Ishee said. “The determination, drive and training these kids have shown will stick with them in everything they do for the rest of their lives.” Also finishing the race were parents Paul Shelly, 1:44; and Sherri Cantey, 2:09.
