• Gina Elizabeth Gunter has been selected to receive the Clare L. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
This $800 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from a fund established by a bequest from the estate of Mrs. Reynolds.
Gunter, a 1998 graduate of Meridian High School, is in the third semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. A President’s List scholar, Gunter is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses. Her plans are to pursue a master’s degree in nursing and become a nurse educator.
• Accuisha S. Dubose has been selected to receive the first From the Past to the Future Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
This $400 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by the Golden Years Seniors of Good Shepherd Ministries under the direction of Dr. Debra Brewer, head pastor.
Dubose, a 2000 graduate of Meridian High School, is in the third semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. A President’s List scholar, Dubose is a certified nurse assistant furthering her education in the medical field. Her plans are to obtain a master’s degree and work in obstetrics.
• Emily Lauren Brantley has been selected to receive the first Giving a Blessing Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
This $300 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by Pastor Mary Gray of Good Shepherd Ministries.
Brantley, a 2009 graduate of Meridian High School, is in the University Transfer Program. Brantley is a member of the Baptist Student Union and MCC Chorus. Her plans are to obtain a bachelor’s degree and teach elementary education.
• Serena Louise Harwell has been selected to receive the Austin and Alice James Accounting Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
This $1,600 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Great Southern National Bank in honor of the James’. Mr. James retired from Great Southern as president and chief operating officer. Mrs. James taught accounting at MCC for 30 years. Mr. and Mrs. James continue to support the endowment through their gifts to the annual giving fund.
Harwell, a 2008 graduate of Meridian High School, is a sophomore in the University Transfer Program. Harwell is a member of Wesley Campus Ministries and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. A President’s List scholar, her plans are to pursue a degree in business.
• STARKVILLE – Chloe Pinter of Neshoba Central Elementary School recently competed in the Region V Mississippi Science and Engineering Fair hosted by Mississippi State University’s Bagley College of Engineering.
Of the seven MSEF regions in Mississippi. Region V covers 16 counties, including: Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Clay, Kemper, Lauderdale, Leake, Lowndes, Montgomery, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Scott, Webster and Winston counties. This includes all schools K-12. Competition occurs on two levels: Upper Fair, grades 7-9, and Lower Fair, grades 1-6.
Each year, more than 1,100 students participate in the regional fair representing their schools and their communities. Projects are judged based on the following criteria: creativity, use of a scientific process, thoroughness, oral presentation, and display.
• LIVINGSTON, Ala. — Clarkdale High School senior David A. Dennis of Meridian was recently awarded a $6,000 Trustees Scholarship to attend the University of West Alabama.
The award, which is based on academic achievement and proven leadership potential, comes from the UWA Office of Admissions.
• East Mississippi Community College choir students LaDonna Davidson and Charmagne Hoskins, both of West Point, recently auditioned for the University of Southern Mississippi’s voice program.
Both students were awarded scholarships to help support their studies at USM. Davidson received a scholarship of $600 per semester for up to five years, a total of $6,000; Hoskins received a scholarship of $500 per semester for up to five years, a total of $5,000. Both students have been members of the EMCC concert choir and Reflection Singers, and have taken applied voice lessons with Wendy Smith, EMCC director of choral and vocal music education.
