The EC Women’s Tennis team defeated the South West Tennis Team 8-1. The individual results are as follows:

Rachel Ramirez/ Hannah Peoples (EC) lost to Caitlyn Adams/Ashley Brewer (SW) 7-9

Sami Elkins/Ashley Walker(EC) won a default vs. (SW) 8-0

Dee Walker (EC) defeated John Paul Price(SW) 6-2, 6-1

Holmes CC         0

    The Jones County Junior College tennis teams whipped Holmes Community College here Wednesday afternoon at the Howard Sports Complex.

    In the only women’s match, JCJC’s Lexi Bowen beat Taylor Morgan, 6-0, 6-3. Holmes did not bring any other women’s players and forfeited the other eight matches, giving Jones a 9-0 victory.

    The Lady Bobcats are now 10-0 on the season.

    On the men’s side, Holmes only brought four players and played six matches. But the Bobcats won them all, giving them a 9-0 victory.

In doubles’ matches, Cade Sherman and Dalton Delk beat Tye Steele and Joseph Dees, 8-1.             Tyler Shows and Eric Lynn blanked Josh Pinkard and Jeffrey Arnold, 8-0.

    In singles’ play, Sherman beat Steele, 6-3, 6-2, while Armand Deniakos downed Dees, 6-2, 6-0.             Nathan Burkett downed Arnold, 6-1, 6-0, and Ray Moore defeated Pinkard, 6-4, 6-1.

    The Bobcat men’s team is now 8-2.

    JCJC will host Co-Lin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday and will travel to Biloxi to face Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at noon on Monday in a makeup match.

    Russell Christian eased past Newton Academy in the Kemper Tournament.

    Kelsey Wilson had three homeruns and a single, while Mady Lee and Lauren Thrash each had homeruns.

    Russell notched its second win of the Kemper Tournament defeatig Kemper Academy by two runs.

        Kelsey Wilson went 4-4 and Lauren Thrash was 3-4 to lead Russell. Erin Garrison and Mady Lee each had a base hit. Carla Storey also added two hits in the win.

    Russell Christian dropped its third game at the Kemper Tournament losing to Central Academy by ten runs.

    Lauren Thrash led the offense with a homerun and a single, while Kelsey Wilson and Mady Lee each had a base hit.

    Russell will be back in action today hosting Central.

    Newton County blanked Magee in high school tennis action.

    Brandon St.Clair defeated Jacob Allen 6-0, 6-0 in boys’ singles action. Bryden Reed and Patrick Ross defeated Adam Craft and Reed Schaub in boys’ doubles 6-1, 6-0.

    In girls’ singles action it was Shannon St.Clair blanking Magee’s Simmea Magee 6-0,6-0.

Cassie Munn and Claire Tadlock took down Kenra Smith and Raegan Pittman 6-0,6-0.

    Blake Cochran and Kelsey Tadlock took the win in mixed doubles knocking off Nick Allen and Quaeshundra McCann 6-0, 6-0.

Mendenhall         0

    Newton County kept things rolling sweeping all seven matches from Mendenhall.

    Blake Cochran won by forfeit in the boys’ singles, while Kelsey Tadlock to the win by way of forfeit in girls’ singles action.

    Will and Russ Thompson defeated Michael Robinson and Tommy Dudley 6-2, 6-1 in boys’ doubles, while Emily Lucy and Lauren Lurk took down Jherrika Atterberry and Imazi Johnson 6-0, 6-0 in the girls’ doubles match.

    Brandon St. Clair and Shannon St. Clair defeated Percy Smith and Porsha Franks in mixed doubles action.

    Newton County’s record improves to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in division play. Up next for the Cougars is Madison Central.
