- The Music Emporium's original owner, Art Matthews, and his daughter, current owner Aislinn Webb, remember good times throughout The Music Emporium's 36 year history. A closing celebration will be held at the The Music Emporium, 3100 23rd Ave., beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 6.
After 36 years The Music Emporium, 3100 23rd Ave., will close its doors with a celebration Saturday night, March 6, beginning at 6 p.m.
Currently CDs are 50 percent off and clothes are 75 percent off, Aislinn Webb, the store’s owner said.
The Music Emporium is open noon-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Orders for music can be placed through Wednesday of this week with pickup March 4-5.
Citing technology and the economic downturn as factors in her decision to close, Webb said: “This is a heartbreaking decision on one hand, but I have to say, the unforgettable memories and the co-workers and customers who have become life-long friends now to my family and I hold a far greater power than heartbreak. I also have to admit that I am very excited about the possibilities and directions that my life may now take. Business is something I enjoy, but I have many creative talents that I will now pursue as well.
“I just want to express the deepest and most sincere gratitude to every single person who has passed through that old wooden door through the years offering stories, laughter, and incredible exchanges of ideas and most of all great music.”
Here are some Facebook comments from the Music Emporium and Aislinn Webb’s profiles in response to the news this past week:
• Doug Thompson: A piece of history will no longer be but the GREAT memories will always be alive.
• Kimberly Hall: That makes me so sad to hear… 🙁 I’m still trying to find something like it out here in Arizona!!! It’s one of a kind…
• Holly Hudnall Whitehead: Great memories and good times….
• Dan Thomas: Very sorry to see this great place close. I used to sneak over there and play cards with Art during lunch back in HS. The store will be missed. Good luck in your future endeavors!
• Kelly Lee: I am so sad to see such an iconic scene conclude… Yet, this event sets free the transformations that every life must anticipate. Therefore, it is simply a prelude to your future accomplishments. Good luck Aislinn!
• Bonnie DeFries: May Many memories Aislinn, but I know you will go on to do something great with all of your many gifts and talents. We love you!
• Michael Ware Geez: another icon bites the dust. I have many good memories of drinking wine at the Music Emporium with Art. What a bummer. Walmart and the internet have killed off another independent music store.
• Richelle Putnam: Oh, my, Aislinn. It’s so hard for me to believe. I bought all my records and tapes (yes records and tapes!) from Art. And I’ve bought some of my cutest clothes and accessories from you. What’s a girl to do?????
