A man who escaped from the Pearl River County Jail in Poplarville a week ago was captured Thursday night by officers of the Meridian Police Department.

Raphael A. Taylor, 22, of Meridian, was taken into custody by patrolmen and detectives of the MPD and agents of the Mississippi Department of Corrections at about 8:15 p.m., according to MPD Capt. James Sharpe, who is the commander of the MPD’s Investigative Division. Sharpe said an anonymous tip placed Taylor at an apartment in the Old Marion Road Apartment complex.

Detectives, patrolmen and MDOC agents then converged on Apt. K-7 and made the apprehension.

A press release from MDOC Thursday said Taylor may be in the Meridian area. Taylor was serving a five-year sentence for vehicle burglary in Lauderdale County.
