“Because He Lives” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth” were sung a capella by Patty Cockwell, middle school teacher at West Lauderdale, for the April meeting of the Obadiah Volunteer Homemakers.

Also, Lois Raabe of Houston, Texas, distributed plastic Easter eggs. Each egg had a word inside as it related to life: Friends – relationships; Brush and Pallet – Art; Teacher – Profession; Good work – Recognition; School – Education; School Bus – Transportation; Numbers – Math; A to Z – Being able to read; Chalk and A+ – Good Grades; Child’s drawings – be creative; Empty egg – Luke 24: 1-3.

Raabe’s husband, Harold, also presented a program on control of blood pressure, noting the importance of knowing your numbers, and having treatment if necessary.

Norman Pace brought the devotional “Live for Today,” which advised: Don’t save that dress in a box until you are put in a box for the cemetery. Don’t save the good linens, towels, silverware, china and crystal, but use it now. There might not be a tomorrow.

During the business session, Appia Terry, secretary, read the minutes for March, did recycle count and called roll. Approximately 23 members were present out of a membership of 26. One new member was added, Janet Lowe.

Lou Limerick presented the treasurer’s report.

The Safety Report by Betty Crocker advised members to always carry cell phones.

“If you have reason to need police or highway patrol, dial 77 on your phone,” Crocker said.

In her Wesley House Report, Georgia Snowden noted the facility is accepting clean clothes – pressed and on hangers.

Wallace Terry’s Global Report expressed concerns about the circumstances of the United States’ relationships with Israel.

Plans were made for National Homemaker Week, April 20-25. The club will take homemade cookies and welcome visitors at the Mississippi Center at Toomsuba. Members unable to attend are to send homemade or bakery cookies.

Obadiah Volunteer Homemakers Club is host for the next council meeting for Lauderdale County Homemaker Volunteers on April 28; plans were made for the menu for the luncheon.

After the pledge to the flag and door prizes, refreshments were served by hostesses Norma Pace, Virginia White and Robert Hughes.

The next meeting will be May 5, with hostesses Mary Kinard, Katherine Daniels and Ethridge.

4-H refreshments and assistance for April are assigned to Lyda Tingle and Georgia Snowden.
