A Lauderdale County man died Tuesday evening when the farm tractor he was using to pull logs flipped over on top of him.

Lauderdale County Cornor Clayton Cobler said Sherman Hardy Jr., 71, of 6589 Russell Tompton Road, was pronounced dead around 6 p.m. at the scene that was located behind his home.

“Mr. Hardy, along with his wife, had attached a chain to a tree he’d cut down,” said Cobler. “After attaching the other end to his tractor, Mr. Hardy apparently gunned the tractor.”

Cobler went on to say the tree snagged on another stump causing the tractor to flip over on top of Hardy before he could apply the brakes.

“It was a medium sized farm tractor but it pinned him underneath,” Cobler said. “It was just a tragic event.”
