More than 570 non-tribal staffers will no longer have a job now that the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is cutting operations at its Golden Moon Hotel and Casino to a Friday-Sunday operation.

The Golden Moon — part of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indian’s Pearl River Resort — will be closing its doors Monday-Thursday, officials announced today.

Paul Harvey, president and chief executive officer of the resort, said while revenues at Silver Star remain strong, the newer Golden Moon has strained resort earnings since it opened in 2002.

The tribe will not include any tribal members in the staff reduction.
