Prep Basketball Roundup (Dec. 31) – Southeast girls capture Choctaw championship

The Southeast Lauderdale girls captured the Choctaw Central Invitational title Tuesday, defeating the host Lady Warriors 72-51.
The Lady Tigers rallied from a 28-27 halftime deficit by outscoring Choctaw Central 22-9 in the third quarter to pull away. Southeast then added a 23-14 fourth-quarter to finish off the championship win.
Pashen Thompson led Southeast (11-1) with 27 points, while Brittany Roberts added 24.
April Durden chipped in with 12 points and Keyosha Robinson finished with 7 for the Lady Tigers.
Choctaw Central was led by Coby Wallace’s 17.
Southeast heads to the Sam Dale tournament at Kemper County on Friday, opening against Quitman at 4 p.m.

Leake Academy girls 76
University Christian 37
The Leake Academy Rebelettes opened the University Christian Holiday Classic with a blowout win over the host Flames.
Leake built a 27-9 lead after the first quarter and had no trouble down the stretch, adding 26 and 19 points in the second and third quarters, respectively.
Emily Kea posted a double-double in the win with 29 points and 10 rebounds.
Jenny Wilbanks and Hannah Peoples each scored 13 for LA, while Char’Lesa Tadlock added 11.
Lindsay England tallied 18 points to lead UC.

Leake Academy 37
In its second game of the University Christian Holiday Classic, Leake dropped only its second game of the year.
The Rebelettes, who were riding an 18-game winning streak, erased a three-point lead at halftime to take a 32-29 advantage into the fourth quarter, but were outscored nearly 3-to-1 in the final period.
Wilbanks had a double-double with 11 points and 13 boads in the losing effort.
Anne Robinson led ERA with 19 points, while Brooke Rhodes chipped in 15.
Both of Leake’s losses this season have come in tournament play to East Rankin.
The Rebelettes (19-2) will host Manchester on Jan. 6.
