Officials with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department wanted Wednesday afternoon to ensure residents and motorists of Lauderdale County understood their commitment to making the roadways much, much safer this holiday season.
In a statement issued by LCSD Chief Dep. Ward Calhoun, he said deputies would be anywhere and everywhere in terms of conducting sobriety checkpoints throughout the county. The main reason behind the checkpoints, according to Calhoun, is obvious.
“We want everyone to be safe and be able to travel to friends’ homes, family gatherings and social functions without the fear of an impaired driver causing dangerous situations that may turn into a tragedy,” said Calhoun. “The holiday season is one of joy and fellowship. We will do all we can to ensure everyone has a great holiday.”
From Dec. 19 through Jan. 4, Calhoun said deputies will be conducting the sobriety checkpoints in order to strongly enforce DUI laws. These checkpoints will usually begin and end in the time period covering 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. on any given day.
