DECATUR – Ten educators from the Newton County School District recently attended the Mississippi Model Schools Conference held in Jackson.
According to Newton County Superintendent of Education Pat Ross the conference conference fell directly in line with one of the district goals for this year to increase standards in our classrooms.
“The Rigor and Relevance Framework discussed at this conference really pushed teachers and students to work towards making our district’s learning environment one that fosters high level thinking and real world application of the skills and knowledge acquired at school,” Ross said.
“We would have loved to have been able to send every teacher in our district to this conference, but because of budget restraints the personnel that attended will now meet with the rest of our teachers and share their experience and how we need to put that experience to work,” he said.
Attending from the elementary school were Emily Dean, Dana Vance, Dawn Harrison, Buffy Hale, Chris Whittle and Janet McCree. Attending from the middle school and high schools were Teresa McDill, Dawn Hollingsworth, Linda Tingle and Suzanne Cain.
