A person of character is a good person, someone to look up to and admire. Someone who knows the difference between right and wrong and always tries to do what is right; sets a good example; and makes the world a better place.

These were the virtues expressed by Edna Manley to the slate of new officers of the Obadiah Volunteer Homemaker Club during a recent installation services. As she conducted the ceremony, Manley reminded the officers that in the coming year it is their duty to continue to model positive character traits as they lead the club.

As president, Virginia White represents the character of respect. The club will respect her leadership ability and rely on her to point members in the right direction.

Robin Doerner, vice-president, represents the character trait of responsibity. Members will look to her for conduction quality programs, providing recreation and recruiting.

Apphia Terry and Lou Limerick, secretary and treasuer, duties are to be honest as record keepers for the club and provide reports each month. The true character of their posts is trustworthiness.

Honesty is the character trait for Elouise Ethridge, who, as reporter, is expected to accurately and enthusiastically report the activities of the club.

And as parliamentarian, Jackie Pace’s trait is fairness, and to maintain order and be open minded and make sure everyone’s opinion is heard.

Lou Limerick, president called the meeting to order.

Virginia White was elected Woman of the Year for the club by secret ballot.

After enjoying a meal at New’s Restaurant, members exchanged gifts by playing Take Away or Dirty Santa.

Twenty-three members were present and two guests, Claire Murphy and Edna Manley.

Twelve handmade Christmas wreaths were distributed to various organizations sponsored by the club, including: Hope Village for Children, LOVE’s Kitchen, The Care Lodge, Wesley House and some in nursing homes.

The 4-H refreshments for December will be provided by Lou Limerick and Cathy Clearman.

The meeting closed with prayer by Elouise Ethridge.

Hostesses for the January meeting will be Dorothy Doerner and Robin Doerner. The meeting will be held at the Four Club Community Center.
