The pre-holiday vacation is over for Lauderdale County School District students, however Meridian Public School District’s students won’t learn their fate until later this morning.

On Thursday, Lauderdale County Superintendent Randy Hodges said schools would reopen.

“I talked with (LEMA Director) David Sharp and he felt confident that it would be okay,” Hodges said.

However, Meridian Superintendent Charlie Kent said he would wait before making a decision.

“We’re going to decide early in the morning; I don’t think it’s going to do anything but we’re just going to wait and see what develops,” he said.

Kent said Meridian Public School officials would know by 5:30 a.m. today whether or not schools would open.
