In a battle of two one-loss teams, Kemper County’s girls had just enough to hold off Sumter County 48-46.
The host Lady Wildcats of KC jumped out to a 10-point lead after one quarter and increased it to 15 at halftime before Sumter County stormed back. The visitors went on a 21-6 run to open the second half to tie the game at 31 apiece.
Over the final 8 minutes, Kemper County managed two points more than SCHS as Kemper improved to 7-1.
Alondra Jefferson scored 17, while Erika Collins added a dozen for the winners.
Katia Maye and Jamesha Watkins each notched 17-point games for Sumter County.
KC will travel to Meridian Thursday.

Kemper County 78
The KC boys built a 28-19 lead after one period, but saw it dwindle until Sumter County took the lead for good and outlasted the homestanding Wildcats.
Kemper County (4-3) was led by Julius Newton’s 18 points, while Devonta Pollard and Tomaun Rencher had 14 and 11, respectively.
Kevin May pumped in 33 points. His game-high outing was followed by David Lake’s 19 and Adain Winn’s 13.
Kemper returns to action Thursday when the Wildcats visit Meridian.

Heidelberg girls 47
The Wayne County girls overcame a four-point deficit after three quarters in a big way, outscoring Heidelberg 28-10 in the final period as the Lady War Eagles earned their fifth victory of the year.
WCHS (5-1) received 18 points each from Lauren Douglas and Dekesha Jones. The latter made it a double-double effort with 15 rebounds.
HHS was paced by Euraka Carr’s 24 points.
The Lady War Eagles will open division play next Tuesday when they host Northeast Lauderdale.

Wayne Academy girls 42
Leading by two with one quarter to play, the Newton County Academy Lady Generals blew open a close game with 25 fourth-quarter points to hand Wayne Academy its first loss.
Anna Rose Blaylock had a game-high 17 points to lead NCA, while Lauren Shimfessel added 16. Ashton Vance tacked on 12 for the winners.
Wayne Academy (6-1) got 16 points from Katrina Lofton, and Morgan Tynes scored 12.
The Lady Jaguars will play four games next week, beginning with a road-trip to Alpha Christian on Monday.

Meridian girls 1
West Lauderdale used a pair of second-half goals to knock off Meridian Tuesday night.
Meridian led 1-0 at halftime on a Meme Huff goal. She was assisted on the score by Braden Sims.
The Lady Wildcats fell to 4-2 on the year.
MHS will host Clarkdale on Thursday.

West Lauderdale 0
Dylan Harper recorded four saves in goal as the Meridian Wildcats blanked West Lauderdale.
MHS took a 1-0 lead into halftime on Jake Watkins scored an unassisted goal.
Pieter Both doubled the score in the second half when he knocked on into the net off a the Knight goalie’s deflection.
Meridian, which improved to 3-0 on the year, will entertain Clarkdale on Thursday.
